New York Live Arts Presents Netta Yerushalmy's Epic Four Hour, Six Part Series

New York Live Arts (Live Arts) to present the New York premiere of Netta Yerushalmy's Paramodernities, March 14-17, 2019, having commissioned the work as part of the Live Feed Residency Program. The complete six-part encyclopedic series is a multidisciplinary work that weaves theory and performance into a four-hour-long hybrid event. Yerushalmy and a cast of 20 dancers and scholars, ranging in age from 20 to 68, perform deconstructed installments of Nijinsky's “Sacre” (1913), Graham's “Night Journey” (1947), Ailey's “Revelations” (1960), a mix of Cunningham works “Rainforest,” “Sounddance”, “Points in Space”, “Beach Birds”,  and “Ocean” (1968-1990), dance numbers from the 1969 Fosse's film “Sweet Charity”, and a response to Balanchine's “Agon” (1957) that includes none of the original choreography.

Leading Choreographers Create Site-Specific Dance at the Rubin Museum

Leading contemporary choreographers will premiere site-specific performances in a new dance series at the Rubin Museum of Art, presented in partnership with the arts organization Pentacle. For “Suspending Time,” Beth Gill, Zvi Gotheiner, Raja Feather Kelly, and nora chipaumire have each created a work connected to the Rubin's exhibitions and 2018 theme, “The Future.” The twenty minute performances will take place on four Wednesday evenings in March and April, each in a different gallery within the Museum.

The critically-acclaimed work pushes the limits of human physicality as Ailey dancers take on Tharp's daring, driving choreography with breathtaking leaps and finely-honed partnering. Applauded by The New York Times for his leading role in the work, Clifton Brown the virtuoso Ailey dancer who recently returned to the company rises to Ms. Tharp's challenges as if he's been released, and his absorption becomes transporting.
