Seattle Theatre Group announced that it has commissioned a new collaborative work by dance and visual art company zoe | juniper and punk band Xiu Xiu, which will have its world premiere on May 17 and 18, 2025, at The Moore Theatre as part of its 2024/25 Performing Arts Series.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Reefer Madness, a new revised version Reefer Madness the Musical will open May 30, 2024 at The Whitney. I talked to director/choreographer Spencer Liff during the early days of rehearsals, so casting hadn’t been finalized. Members of the original creative team reuniting to produce are: actors Kristen Bell, Christian Campbell and Alan Cumming, creators Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney, Andy Fickman, who directed 2005's Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, and America Olivo Campbell.

Entertainment non-profit Road Recovery has partnered with New York-based Dominican singer-songwriter, Roxiny to release the new single, “Voices In My Head” featuring the legendary producer, musician, and long-time charity supporter, Don Miggs who performed, mixed and produced the track. The single is written and recorded in collaboration with The (LBTQ) Center participants as part of the organization’s Trax Program in statewide Youth Clubhouses sanctioned by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS). Infinite Refrain, Music of Love’s Refuge', a new album that is the first of its kind, features passionate duets and arias that explore the nuances of gay love in the 17th century in Venice. Though often concealed or suppressed, the connection, doubts, joy, misery, laughter, longing, and elation of same-sex admiration existed, nonetheless.  Conceived as the journey of two men in love, told through 17th-century music, this album draws back the curtain of religious absolutism that has obscured stories of gay romance for hundreds of years.

What did our critic think: This is cutting edge theater of the highest order.  Dangerous and daring, it’s more than simply Avant Guard, it is timeless and contemporary at the same time – the kind of theater that makes you sit up on the edge of your seat and pay attention.

Netflix has announced that the comedy special Jo Koy: Live From Brooklyn will premiere globally on June 4, 2024. The special was filmed at The Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY in November 2023. This marks Koy’s fifth special with Netflix, following Live From The Los Angeles Forum (2022), Comin’ In Hot (2019),  and Live From Seattle (2017), in addition to his variety special In His Elements (2020). 

Between its 2019 off-Broadway run, 2021 Washington, D.C., staging, and 2022–2023 Broadway engagement at the Lyceum Theatre, the musical “A Strange Loop” – with music, lyrics, and book by Michael R. Jackson – has won a much-deserved 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2022 Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical. It has also earned a place as one of the most talked-about, must-see new musicals in recent years.
