The highly anticipated revival officially opened last night, April 2. Starring Adam Kantor and Betsy Wolfe, the beloved two-character musical, which has received more than 500 regional productions and 3,000 performances around the world, returns to New York City after eleven years in an all-new staging directed by MR. STAGE TUBE: Behind the Scenes of Gallery Players' PARADE

The Gallery Players, now in its 46th season, will start off the New Year with Alfred Uhry and Jason Robert Brown's PARADE, running January 26 to February 17, 2013. Tony Award winner for Best Book and Best Score in 1999, PARADE is based on the true events of the 1913 trial of Leo Frank, a Jewish man from Brooklyn who runs a pencil factory in Marietta, Georgia. Frank is accused of the murder of 13-year old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher, determined district attorney and a janitor's false testimony seal Leo's fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience, and eventually, his assimilated Southern wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion. 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the crime. Today in 1998, Parade opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, where it ran for 85 performances. Parade is a musical with a book by Alfred Uhry and music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. The production was directed by Harold Prince and starred Brent Carver as Leo Frank, Carolee Carmello as Lucille Frank, and Christy Carlson Romano as Mary Phagan. The musical won Tony Awards for best book and best score (out of nine nominations) and six Drama Desk Awards. The show has enjoyed a U.S. national tour and numerous professional and amateur productions in both the U.S. and abroad.
