Barrymore Haas Nominees Announced; Awards Set for 10/4

The Theatre Alliance announced the finalists for the prestigious F. Otto Haas Award for an Emerging Philadelphia Theatre Artist at a press conference today at New Freedom Theatre. This year's nominees are actors James Ijames, Steve Pacek, Sarah Sanford, Amanda Schoonover, and designer Thom Weaver. The recipient will be awarded at the Barrymore Awards Ceremony on October 4 at the Walnut Street Theatre.

The 2010 Barrymore nominees have been announced! Created in 1994, The Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre are the Greater Philadelphia region's only comprehensive theatre awards program, recognizing artists for excellence and innovation while serving to increase awareness of the richness of the local theatre community. The Barrymore Awards are a nationally recognized symbol of excellence for theatre in this region, raising the bar for the work produced by local theatres and individual artists, and generating significant coverage in all the local newspapers and in national trade publications.Each year, over 120 shows produced by the region's professional theatres are reviewed by the Barrymore Voters. At the annual awards presentation each Fall, the Barrymore Awards are presented to honor the community's collective achievement. Arden Theatre Company concludes its 2009/10 season with the Pultizer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, directed by Terrence J. Nolen, the Arden's producing artistic director. Sunday in the Park marks the twelfth Sondheim production in the company's history and the first time the Arden will use Sondheim's complete original orchestrations, led by Barrymore Award-winning musical director Eric Ebbenga.
